Wagga Wagga (or Wagga as the locals call it) straddles the Murrumbidgee river and is part of the Wiradjuri nation. For many years people thought the name Wagga Wagga meant: many crows. In 2019, the local council enacted its first Reconciliation Action Plan and heeded expert advice to revise the official meaning to: many dances and celebrations. Wagga has a population of approximately 70 000 people and is known as the City of Good Sports. Wagga Wagga Athletics and Little Athletics Club was the 17th club to form in NSW when Little Athletics was created making us one of the oldest clubs in NSW. There are now over 150 clubs across the state.
Bill took great pride in being part of the Jubilee Park facility’s development and offered countless hours of unpaid work to build and complete the complex. The track is currently CLOSED for redevelopment until at least November 2024. It is being replaced with new field facilities and a new synthetic track surface. "Wiradjuri Track and Field" off Narrung St is being used as an alternative venue until we return to Bill Jacobs.
